We say we want change

“I really hate that our insurance premiums keep going up! At some point, while I say this every year, soon I REALLY will not be able to afford it! What’s even worse? I can’t even remember the last time I used my dang insurance!”

Is that you? Do you have that same conversation with yourself, coworkers, friends, or family? Have you used your plan to know if it is even benefiting you to have it in the first place? Do you even know the coverages of the plan that you are paying such an ungodly amount for? The chances are, your answer is “no”…good news: you are not alone. There are very few people who know what their insurance plan provides, and of those few people, they are typically the ones who do use their plan.

We complain because the rates are unaffordable, we complain because the cost of care, when we actually have to use it, is unaffordable….we say there has to be a better way, we say there has to be a change, yet when ANY change is presented, we complain about that too…

Let’s look at the word change and its several meanings:

  • to make different in some particular way
  • to make radically different
  • to give a different position, course, or direction to
  • to replace with another
  • to shift from one to another

Yall, no matter what definition you use, they all are some variation of DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT! Meaning, for things to “change”, things must be different than what they are now. Yeah, I know, this is the part where you think, “Oh, hell, no!” Why? Because change is freaking scary, that’s why! As human beings, we are creatures of habit. We like routines, we like consistency, we like safety (even if it’s false)…basically, we like to be in our “little bubble.” Yet, here we are, inside our bubble, complaining because it isn’t as comfortable as it used to be, it doesn’t feel as safe as it once was, it’s not as routine as we have become accustomed to. The healthcare system has pushed us to the point where we are begging for a change but too freaking scared to actually make a change. It’s time to stop letting the START stop you! Stop being paralyzed by the unknown…let’s be real; we are already in the middle of the unknown with the healthcare system, so what is the harm of doing something different? Change happens when we finally step out of our comfort zone, when the frustration of staying is greater than the fear of change. If you don’t know where to start, I happen to know some people 😉…because IT JUST AIN’T THAT DANG COMPLICATED!
