Go the Extra Mile

By April 19, 2024April 22nd, 2024Culture
During our April Recognition Monday meeting, Brenda Dean was asked to speak about one of Highpoint’s Fundamental Behaviors. She spoke on the principle of “go the extra mile.”
Recognition Monday is a companywide meeting held each month to recognize employee achievements, celebrate our wins, and refocus our team on the agency’s annual goals.
Brenda’s talk explains the rewards of going above and beyond.
Read it below:

The saying “go the extra mile” originally comes from the Bible: “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.” From The Sermon on the Mount – Matthew 5.41

Going the extra mile means doing more than expected or giving added effort towards something you want to accomplish.

Most times it doesn’t take anything away from you to go that extra mile and it is always worth it.

That little bit, done with consistency can make a massive difference.

By making a habit of going the extra mile every day — the change can be great!

We can’t gain great success by simply doing what is required.  It is what is done above and beyond that determines the success.

Some Benefits of going the extra mile:

  1. This habit will bring you to the favorable attention of those who can will provide you with opportunities to promote yourself into a better circumstance
  2. This habit will give you preference when work is slack, and others are laid off.
  3. It will help you to benefit by the law of contrasts, because others around you will not be going the first mile, let alone the second mile. (Unless, you work for Highpoint!!!)
  4. Following this habit of giving your best effort, and doing it with a pleasing mental attitude will improve your personality and make you liked by others.
  5. It will also help you to develop a keen, alert imagination, because you will be continuously seeking new and better ways of offering useful service.
  6. The habit of going the extra mile develops greater self-reliance and gives you more courage to move ahead without the fear of criticism from others.
  7. Going the extra mile influences other people to respect your integrity, and inspires them to go out of their way to cooperate with you in a friendly spirit.

Test the magic power of this principle

  • Try going the extra mile for seven days in a row. Don’t tell anyone that is what you are doing.

And by the end of the seventh day you will find yourself happier and better liked by those around you… you will never want to give up the habit.

You can start right now making Going the Extra Mile a habit by everyday giving more and better service than you did yesterday.

Remember If you believe it, you can do it!!
